Astronomy Program August 11, 2009 at 8:30 P.M. Join Kendall Jacobs for a "walk among the stars" on the evening of August 11, 2009, at Fort Laramie National Historic Site. This special star gazing program begins at 8:30 p.m. on the parade grounds. Mr. Jacobs will take you on a tour of the bright stars, constellations, and visible planets. Science fact, myths, legends and Native American stories make this a wonderfully informative and entertaining family program. Weather permitting, we will view nebula, star clusters, galaxies, the Moon, Jupiter, and Mars through telescopes The presentation protion of the program begins at 8:30 with telescope observing to follow. Observing will last until the last stargazer falls asleep or the sun comes up-- whichever comes first. Military Weekend August 15 - 16, 2009 1860`s era soldiers will take you on a journey into civil war period infantry and cavalry daily life at Fort Laramie. The fort will come alive with programs, demonstrations, historic camps, displays, and more on August 15th & 16th, 2009. This special living history weekend is traditionally one of the fort`s most popular summer activities. It will begin at 9:30am on Saturday August 15th. Formal programs start at 10:00 a.m. Living history camps will be open and historic weapons demonstrations will be held throughout the day. August 15, 2009 7:00 pm 0n Saturday, August 15, the park's Annual Moonlight Tour will begin at 7:00 pm. This evening program will allow visitors to see many of the characters associated with the rich history of Fort Laramie. Park guides will meet visitors in the parking lot area, give a short orientation, and then lead them in groups through a series of vignettes. The park requests visitors make reservations for the eveing "Moonlight Tour " program and encourages visitors to bring a flashlight and suggest they bring mosquito repellant.
